URBAN POLYPHONIES is a choral singing workshop that aims to rediscover and enhance classical choral music within the context of performing arts research. It is aimed at creative voices and vocal performers interested in any type of performing practice or artistic activity. Now in its fourth edition, titled _ecosistemi (ecosystems), it is part of a workshop program created by musician and composer Francesco Leineri in collaboration with the Margine Operativo group. It is offered in a unique open-air version, entirely realized in dialogue with several public urban parks in the metropolitan area of Rome.
The workshop is divided into two phases: the first took place in May 2025, and the second and final phase will take place in September 2025 at Torre del Fiscale Park. During these three days, we will consolidate the artistic practices previously developed, finalizing them towards a clearer restorative staging, opening the working group to those who have not participated in the previous phase of artistic research. We will enter the park in performance, exploring it with our physical presence, listening to the surrounding soundscape, and finally through song, as if within a score: a performative choral dimension that can carefully and respectfully observe the most ecological, inclusive, and spiritual of musical traditions.

The workshop takes place outdoors and in natural urban spaces.
The workshop is FREE.
It is open to a limited number of participants.
A group of participants was identified during the first period, which took place in May.
In addition to this group, the “Urban Polyphonies_ Ecosystems” workshop is relaunching an open call
and reopening applications for the second period.
Attendance at all meetings and the presentation of the performance results on September 25th is required.
Upon selection, study materials will be sent to prepare for the first meeting.
HOW TO APPLY
The call for participation in the September meetings will be open from August 25th to September 12th, 2025.
The results will be communicated to you by September 15th, 2025.

FRANCESCO LEINERI graduated in Composition from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.
His language is often connected to storytelling, drawing on hyper-traditional musical forms that have since been reinvented in the current and diverse field of performing arts (opera, theater, songwriting, visual arts). His catalog includes music for theater, film, and advertising, installations and performances, arrangements, and transcriptions. He is a musician with a penchant for teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration, including in ensembles he creates and directs. Since 2020, he has been the director of the Roma Rainbow Choir, the official choir of the Mario Mieli Gay Culture Club. His works have been performed in Italy, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, California, Mexico, India, and Ecuador. His scores are published by Ermes404 Edizioni.
